How to Reduce DHT Hair Loss?

"9 out of 10 bald people are rich", is this really the case? Most of the causes of hair loss are caused by a hormone called DHT, especially men who are more susceptible to it.

What is DHT?

DHT, the medical name is dihydrotestosterone. Simply put, it is a male hormone that mainly causes androgenetic alopecia in people affected by genetics.

During puberty, the male body produces large amounts of testosterone to help develop secondary sexual characteristics. After testosterone is synthesized by 5α reductase, it is converted into DHT. In fact, DHT exists in the body of both men and women. Nearly 95% of DHT in men comes from the testicles, while in women, DHT comes from the ovaries or adrenal glands. Therefore, the level of DHT in women is only one-tenth or one-twentieth of men.

If the body secretes too much DHT, the hair follicles will mature prematurely, shorten the growth cycle and fall out early, leading to progressive DHT hair loss. Hair follicles at different locations on the scalp react very differently to DHT. Among them, the hairline, forehead, and hair top are the most sensitive, have low resistance, and have the strongest destructive power. Therefore, when DHT hair loss occurs, visible hairline receding, M-shaped forehead, sparse hair crown, Mediterranean hair loss and other hair loss conditions will occur.

Can DHT hair loss be prevented?

Since DHT is synthesized by testosterone and 5α reductase, DHT hair loss can be improved by reducing the amounts of testosterone and 5α reductase and inhibiting their synthesis activity.
  1. Drink green tea: Green tea is the only tea that has not been fermented and can retain more natural antioxidants. It is rich in catechin EGCG, which is an excellent antioxidant and a blocker that inhibits the production of DHT and protects the scalp. Hair follicles are protected from damage by DHT.

  2. Ingest turmeric: Turmeric contains high concentrations of curcumin, which can improves cholesterol and reduces inflammation in the body, and also reduces the ability of testosterone to convert into DHT, thus reducing the amount of DHT in the body.

  3. Ingest edamame and soybeans: Edamame or soybean products are rich in isoflavones, dietary fiber and protein. Isoflavones help the body replenish the natural hormone estrogen to reduce the secretion of DHT.

  4. Regular and moderate exercise: Performing aerobic exercise at least 3 times a week can regulate hormones in the body and balance the DHT levels in the body. However, it should be noted that the amount of exercise should be within your ability and should not be too much.
